Fall Dining on the Grand Strand: What's Worth the Trip

Summer gets all the attention on the Grand Strand. The beach is packed, the restaurants are buzzing, and every table is spoken for by noon. But ask any local — or any golfer who's made the trip more than once — and they'll tell you the same thing: fall is when the Grand Strand really delivers.

The crowds thin out. The temperatures drop to something you actually want to be outside in. And the food? The food gets better.

Here's what makes fall dining on the Grand Strand worth planning around.

The Seafood Is at Its Peak

There's a reason coastal restaurants shine in the fall. The summer rush is over, which means kitchens can slow down and focus on quality. Local seafood suppliers are still running strong through October, and the cooler water temperatures bring out some of the best catches of the year.

On the Grand Strand, that means fresh flounder, shrimp, and crab that actually taste like they came from the water nearby — because they did. At Tidewater Grill and Bistro, our Calabash-style platters and grilled seafood dishes are built around what's fresh and in season. Fall is when those dishes are at their absolute best.

If you've only ever had Grand Strand seafood in July, you owe it to yourself to come back in September or October.

Golf Groups Have the Best Tables in the House

Fall is prime golf season on the Grand Strand. With eight world-class courses within easy reach of North Myrtle Beach — including Barefoot Resort, Tidewater Golf Club, and Myrtle Beach National — the area draws serious golfers from across the Southeast and beyond.

And after 18 holes, the group needs a table.

That's where fall dining really earns its reputation. Restaurants aren't slammed the way they are in summer, so you can actually get a great table, enjoy a relaxed pace, and linger over dinner the way a good round deserves. No waiting 45 minutes for a table. No rushed service. Just good food and a chance to replay every shot from the back nine.

We've hosted plenty of golf foursomes and larger groups at Tidewater, and fall is hands-down the best time to do it. The atmosphere is right, the menu is at its strongest, and the staff has time to take care of you properly.

Happy Hour Hits Different When the Weather Cooperates

Daily happy hour from 4 to 6 PM is a Grand Strand tradition, and in the fall it becomes something worth building your afternoon around.

When the temperature is in the low 70s and the humidity has finally backed off, sitting down with a craft cocktail after a day on the course or at the beach feels exactly right. Our happy hour menu features seven signature cocktails and three mocktails — all made to be enjoyed slowly, not rushed.

The Tidewater Mule, our house margarita, and a rotating seasonal cocktail are perennial favorites. Pair any of them with a shareable appetizer and you've got the kind of late-afternoon moment that makes a trip memorable.

The Atmosphere Is What You Came For

Summer dining on the Grand Strand can feel transactional. High volume, quick turns, everyone trying to get in and out. Fall changes that dynamic entirely.

When the tourist traffic eases up, the restaurants that are worth visiting settle into a different rhythm. Service slows down in the best way. Conversations happen. You're not just eating — you're actually having dinner.

Tidewater Grill and Bistro is built for that kind of evening. The coastal design, the warm lighting, the menu that spans fresh seafood to hand-cut steaks — it's all designed for a dinner that takes its time. Fall is when that vision comes through most clearly.

What to Order This Fall

Not sure where to start? Here's what we'd point you toward this season:

  • Calabash Seafood Platter — the Grand Strand classic, done right. Lightly breaded, fried golden, and served with house sides.
  • Grilled Mahi or Flounder — simple, fresh, and exactly what fall coastal dining should taste like.
  • Prime Rib on Sundays — slow-roasted, carved to order, and worth planning your Sunday around.
  • Rodney Strong Wine Dinner — we're hosting two exclusive five-course wine dinners this fall (September 15 and 29 at 6 PM, $89++). A rare chance to pair exceptional wines with a chef-driven menu in an intimate setting.
  • Any cocktail during happy hour — 4 to 6 PM daily. Start there and let the evening unfold.

Plan Your Fall Visit

If you're coming to the Grand Strand for golf, a weekend getaway, or just because fall on the coast is one of life's better ideas, make a reservation before you arrive. Fall weekends fill up faster than people expect, especially around the wine dinners and golf weekends.

We're located at 2100 Old Highway 17 North #106 in North Myrtle Beach, open daily from 11 AM to 9 PM. Lunch runs until 4 PM, dinner service starts at 4 PM, and happy hour is daily from 4 to 6 PM.

The Grand Strand in the fall is worth the trip. Make sure the dinner is too.
